Jeppe Vang Lauritsen, iNANO, awarded prestigious ERC Starting Grant by European Research Council

2009.09.21

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded Associate Professor Jeppe Vang Lauritsen, Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Centre (iNANO), Aarhus University, a grant valued at DKK 7.8 million (EUR 1,050,000) for the project Understanding the Atomic Scale Synergies of Catalytically Active Nanoclusters on Metal Oxide Surfaces.

Associate Professor Lauritsen (33) has an MSc in Materials Science and completed his PhD in Physics at Aarhus University in 2002. He currently works as a senior researcher at iNANO. The five-year grant was made to launch a new research project in nanomaterials for catalysts. ERC grants aim to provide recognition for Europe’s best young researchers and enable them to establish their own independent research groups. The grant includes funds for new experimental equipment to study materials at the atomic scale, operational expenses and salaries for postdoctoral staff and postgraduate students. This is the second time that the ERC has awarded the coveted Starting Independent Researcher Grants, and the prestigious project is allocated in fierce competition with the elite of young European researchers.
